Most days I have the most fabulous job on the planet.
I help deliver babies for a living.
It truly doesn't get much better than that.
But when we have a bad day, it is worse than most can imagine.
To lose a child is undoubtedly the most horrific thing any human should endure.
But it happens, thankfully not that frequently where I work.
Today, I am writing about a baby boy who was born where I work this past summer.
His parents took him home with great hopes and dreams for his life.
Then at the age of two months old he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).
ALL appears most often in children under 10. It is the most common leukemia in children. This disease has a rapid progression and can be fatal in weeks to months.
The good news is the overall cure rate in children is 85% if treated.
This baby needs a bone marrow transplant in order to survive.
He is now 5 months old.
ONLY 5 months old.
That is where we all come in.
BECOME A DONOR. SAVE A LIFE.
It only takes a second of your time.
All you need to do is have your cheek swabbed.
It puts you in The National Bone Marrow Registry. (www.marrow.org)
You can also contact Dana-Farber Cancer Institute at (www.dfci.harvard.edu)
or call them at 1-866-875-DFCI (3324)
They will even mail the kit to your home.
Please donate. Ask your friends to donate. Ask your family, your neighbors, and anyone else who will listen to donate.
You can give the gift of life this holiday season.
One day, in a land not that far away, there was a naive young girl trying to fend for herself. Trying to find happiness while the world fought hard to bring her down.OK, well maybe not naive, but definitely pissed off and trying to understand people's intentions, whether good or bad.
I hope you find my journey humorous.
